Yes, chilly winds blow and snowflakes flurry down from the skies, but according to Punxsutawney Phil spring is on it’s way! The celebrity groundhog and Seer of the Seasons did NOT see his shadow, which means we get to dodge an additional six weeks of winter.

We’re welcoming the budding season with open arms here at Reston Town Center, and want to remind you of all of the fun things coming your way!

Staying fit and taking care of your body is no easy task, but with a little motivation and lot of variety, it can at least be fun. Reston Town Center  has so many creative fitness events that the hard part is choosing which ones you want to do.

Variety in exercise regimes (aka cross training) is very important to a well-balanced muscular system and broadens your physical abilities, says Barbara Bushman, Ph.D., FACSM, associate professor, Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Southwest Missouri State University in an About.com Women’s Health article.  Different workouts also provide a variety of “good” stress on the body, like aerobic, anaerobic, isometric, strength or resistance training.

For example, a cyclist may want to switch it up with a yoga class or swimming to challenge their cardiovascular system and increase flexibility to improve their stamina and prevent injuries.

Switching up your routine also prevents boredom, which can ruin your motivation and create a plateau of physical performance according to the American Council on Exercise. So don’t get stuck in your routine; grab some friends and head to Reston Town Center for events like these:

A rainbow of yoga mats created the terrain of the Reston Town Center pavilion on June 12, as 3,000 attendees managed to raise $1,500 for Reston Interfaith at the third annual Love Your Body Yoga and Wellness Day!

Free yoga classes of all varieties took place, managing to cater to all levels of age and expertise throughout the event. While some sessions focused on intellect and the creation of inner-peace and overall tranquility, others required a more advanced physical state and flexibility—one seminar even involved handstands! The local yoga studios responsible for leading the classes set up booths on the perimeter of the pavilion, providing information about their practices—many offering passes for free classes!

Patrons of healthy lifestyles contributed to the relaxed vibe of the event, offering an array of samples of organic products and spa services. Massages were a hit, relaxing partakers enough to put the “zzz” sound in zen! Reston Whole Foods Market, SweetGreen, Honest Tea, and several others set up an assortment of healthy eats and beverages, encouraging attendees to join them in consuming foods that would be sure to summon applauds from their bods.

Organic culture was also applied to clothing and products, such as nail polish, make-up, hair care, and other personal products. Henna was a sensation, drawing many over to get inked with anything from indie designs to Chinese characters.

Attendees were able to walk away from Love Your Body with ample resources to help bring peace and health to their body and soul!
