R4 Collection Day is Back at Reston Town Center!

Join us for Reston Town Center’s sixth R4 Collection Day: Reduce. Re-use. Recycle. Reston! on Wednesday, April 13 from 1 pm until 4 pm.  In an effort to provide awareness and options for disposal of items that can be diverted from landfill, specific items listed below will be accepted for collection at the Reston Town Center Pavilion, 11900 Market Street, Reston, VA 20190.

We are partnering with a number of groups that will be on site to collect used items for recycling and re-use including Bikes for the World (bicycle, sewing machine and hand tool collection); Reston Lions Club (eyeglasses and hearing aids); Secured Shred (document disposal); and Turtle Wings (computers and other electronics collection).

Reston Town Center has hosted R4 Collection Day twice a year since 2008. The event has garnered the collection of several tons of material to be safely disposed of, and continues to give new life to old and unwanted items.  This ‘green’ service helps to maintain awareness of the types of items that can be recycled, and potentially put to good use, rather than put into the trash.

The first five R4 Collection Days collected hundreds of eyeglasses, bicycles and portable sewing machines for repair and re-use for shipment to underprivileged areas of the world. These items are in addition to the heaps of electronics plus paper shredded on site for recycling. The next R4 Collection Day will be scheduled for September 2011.

Only the items listed below will be accepted at the R4 Collection Day. NO hazardous waste items. Items will only be accepted from 1 pm until 4 pm, and must be delivered directly to the appropriate collection booth.

“We collected literally tons of electronics and paper in the four previous R4 Collection Days we’ve hosted twice a year since 2008,” according to Kathy Cope, General Manager of Reston Town Center. “All of the participants have been very appreciative of the opportunity, and we’re glad to offer this ‘green’ service. We’re providing our patrons, tenants, and the community with an option to safely dispose of items they need to discard, plus maintaining awareness of the types of items that can be recycled, and potentially put to good use, rather than put into the trash.”

The first four R4 Collection Days also collected hundreds of eyeglasses, bicycles and portable sewing machines for repair and re-use for shipment to underprivileged areas of the world, in addition to the tons of electronics plus paper shredded on site for recycling.
